The River Arts District was once the industrial side of Asheville. Now, most of the industrial buildings have been transformed by artists into galleries and studios! Hundreds of artists gather inspiration from this area to create an array of gorgeous works. You can visit their working studios and see how it all comes together and purchase original artwork at their galleries. You won’t be able to find it anywhere else! Watch the Artists at Work
You might find some artists at work while you visit their galleries, but we have some recommendations on where to go to ensure you see a great show. The Jonas Gerard Gallery and Studio has several viewing rooms, but the star of the show is the large stage. Viewers gather around to watch artists paint large canvases onstage while music plays.
Get Inspired Yourself!
Whether you consider yourself a creative or just appreciate the arts, the River Arts District is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the art scene. Some of the artists here offer interactive exhibits. Odyssey Clayworks offers a variety of workshops and classes, and their One Night Pottery Class is perfect for visitors. The North Carolina Glass Center is another great stop– you can make your own glass marble, pendant, paperweight, or ornament!
