Southern hospitality defined

We were traveling recently in the Saluda area en route to taking our daughter to summer camp. We'd been out exploring and were in super casual clothes (and quite frankly a bit sweaty and muddy). As we were dropping our daughter off for 3 weeks at camp and we had also been trekking out of the country, we were all really in need of a great, satisfying, quiet family dinner. We called Newman's not realizing until we looked further online that the restaurant was more formal and had a dress code. I mentioned to the lovely person taking my potential reservation that I really didn't think we should come to dinner because we did not have appropriate attire with us. She graciously told us not to worry at all about that; come on for dinner. We had what can only be described as an exquisite meal and dining experience. Every dish was a work of art. The wine suggestions were spot on. And careful care was taken by the chef to modify the prix fix choices to accommodate our daughter's non-dairy, vegetarian diet. I cannot say enough about the beautiful setting, wonderful meal and fabulous service. Southern hospitality defined.

Wonderful experience

We arranged a celebratory meal there and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. The staff is friendly and professional. Service was prompt, but not rushed. They modified for a vegetarian with vegan tendencies easily. And the meal was delicious. Every course was presented beautifully, with distinct tastes blended perfectly. The produce was all fresh and flavorful and the view was lovely. The wine list is decent by the glass and interesting by the bottle. We will definitely make a return trip.

An extraordinary palate experience!

My wife and I could not have been more impressed by the secluded ambiance, the mountain views, the service, and most importantly the artful display and taste, of our meals at this hidden gem in the small town of Saluda North Carolina. What an incredible find. We HIGHLY recommend not only Newman's Restaurant, but the Orchard Inn itself. Marc and Marianne have created their own small piece of heaven for all to enjoy.

The best of everything

If you want the best food, the best service, the best view of mountains, eat at Newsman's at The Orchard Inn in Saluda, NC. The food is locally sourced, highly creative, and artistically presented. You might say, "It's too pretty to eat." But don't let that you stop from enjoying one of the best meals you'll find in these parts. Normally, the evening meals are served late in the week and on the weekends. Because the restaurant is in an Inn, it does not serve lunch. You'd be wise to reserve a table in advance. The evening meals have a fixed menu with a good selection of options, usually including beef, chicken, fish, veal, etc. I think there are four courses -- served in courses on white linen. And the wine list? Fantastic! It's not cheap, but not the most expensive restaurant either. Dinner runs about $65 per person, note including the wine. But it is a wonderful experience to sit in the dining room, looking at the mountains and be served beautiful, creative, and great-tasting food. Go there for that special occasion. Go as often as you can.

Consistently outstanding

This is our favorite restaurant. The menu changes constantly, but always offers great selections. The first and second courses are generally quite unique and make choosing one very difficult. Wait staff is among the best you will find anywhere.
