Our Favorite Waterfalls Near Saluda, North Carolina
1. Big Bradley Falls
Located in the gorgeous Green River Game Lands, Big Bradley is a 75-foot waterfall with a breathtaking lookout. To get here, you have to hike for less than a mile on a moderately difficult trail. This particular waterfall has been kept completely natural with no fences or rails to keep you from the edge, so make sure you use caution when visiting. It is also advised not to try and hike down Big Bradley itself, but there are plenty of accessible viewpoints to enjoy!
2. Little Bradley Falls
Located across the street from the Big Bradley Falls parking area and trailhead is the Little Bradley Falls. The round trip is about 2 miles and features old ruins that you can observe as you hike along Cove Creek. When you reach the falls, you’ll be wowed by the 35-foot, multi-tiered cascade.
3. Pearson’s Falls
Pearson’s Falls is one of our favorite waterfalls near Saluda. The falls are located on a 268-acre tract of land that has been taken over and maintained by the Tryon Garden Club and is listed as a North Carolina Natural Heritage Area. There is a fee to get in for ages 6 and up, but the small price is well worth what you see. The hike to the falls is only a quarter mile, and the fall itself is 90 feet! We recommend picnicking next to the cascade or one one of the nearby tables.
4. Shunkawauken Falls
If you want to see waterfalls near Saluda but are wary of a hike, the Shunkawauken Falls are perfect for you. The trail is on private property, but you can see the 150-foot cascade right from the road. There are some small pull-offs you can park at for a few minutes so you can take in the view if the road isn’t busy! If you drive up the entire 2,000 feet of elevation, you’ll come across some incredible scenic overlooks that will let you gaze out for mile after mile at the stunning Western North Carolina landscape.
5. Hickory Nut Falls
Make your way to the Chimney Rock State Park to embark on the easy 3/4-mile hike to Hickory Nut Falls. This stunning 404-foot waterfall is an incredible sight to see. It was even one of the filming spots for The Last of the Mohicans! Then, make your way to one of the many other trails in the park for an entire day of hiking and sightseeing.
6. Catawba Falls
Catawba Falls and the surrounding area was not always accessible, but thanks to recent improvements, it is! With the help of some newly constructed bridges, you can trek the 3-mile trail to watch the dozens of cascades. If you can handle difficult hikes, you can even head further up to see the gorgeous 50-foot Upper Falls.
