About Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards
Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards is one of our favorite wineries in Western North Carolina because it is family owned! The land the vineyard now sits on has been in the family for more than nine generations, and this shows through in their impeccable service.
After hearing that it is nearly impossible to grow grapes in the soil of North Carolina, the family took it as a challenge and set out to create the first winery in Henderson County. After researching and experimenting for five years, they succeeded! Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards was born. Not only do the winemakers harvest grapes on the family farm, they have also expanded to 10 more acres at a higher elevation. They have found that the humidity levels and soil here are very similar to European growing areas, so it is the perfect place to produce some of the best grapes in the entire region.
Where Is the Vineyard?
Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards is growing, so they now offer two locations for wine tasting. If you are staying at the Orchard Inn, you’ll want to visit their vineyard at 588 Chestnut Gap Road. It’s just 20 minutes away from our bed and breakfast! Their newest tasting room is in Historic Flat Rock.
Wine Tasting
When you indulge in a wine tasting at Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards, you’ll have a choice to sit inside or outside. Their indoor space has a gorgeous walnut bar and plenty of seating, yet is a very intimate space. The outdoor patio overlooks the 5-acre vineyard to provide breathtaking views. You get to see exactly where the grapes came from as you sip!
You can visit the vineyard tasting room Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Plus, it is open year round, so you can come during the winter when other tasting rooms are usually closed!
