About the Flat Rock Playhouse
The Flat Rock Playhouse is located just a short 20 minutes from the Orchard Inn in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The theater’s origins are rooted in 1940; it was named the Old Mill Playhouse when it first came on the scene. Not long after that, the same troupe of performers from the Old Mill Playhouse opened another theater in Lake Summit. Finally, after two successful theaters in 1952, the troupe of performers and board of directors purchased land in Flat Rock. In 1961, the Playhouse was officially designated as The State Theater of North Carolina. Today, the Playhouse hosts nine months of musicals, dramas, and comedies every year.
