Parker-Binns Vineyard: A Hidden Gem of North Carolina Wine Country

Did you know that the mountains of Western North Carolina produce exceptional wines? During your stay at Orchard Inn, hit the Tryon Foothills Wine Trail to experience it. One of our favorite stops along the trail is Parker-Binns Vineyard. As soon as you enter, you’ll feel like family. The wines are great here, too!

About the Parker-Binns Vineyard

Their Story

The Parker-Binns Vineyard was born out of love, boredom, and a dream. Bob and Karen started out in the food and beverage industry at the Jersey Shore for twenty-five years before heading to South Florida to pursue their next adventure together. After twenty more years of being in business together growing trees, they sold the farm to an Everglades restoration project. They planned on retiring but decided instead to take on a new challenge: the East Coast wine industry.

Bob and Karen are now in their eighties, but they have a plan. Their daughter, Kelly, seems as if she was born to be in the wine business. Their grandson joined in 2019, and it has turned into a family affair. The Parker-Binns legacy will live on!

The Vineyard

Parker-Binns Vineyard began as 10 acres and 4,000 grapevines. Today, it has grown into 40 acres, 12 of which are full of grapevines! Onsite, you’ll find a tasting room, an event space, a beautiful garden, and thousands of grapes growing in the mountain air.

Visiting

Visiting the Parker-Binns Vineyard is always a treat. Whether you have been there many times before or it’s your first time, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Karen herself, or another member of the family, is usually behind the bar, and they take pride in showing off her wines during a tasting. Tastings are available on Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. They cost $10, and you get to keep your glass.

On Sundays, the covered patio comes alive. Pizzas are cooked in the outdoor oven, and locals and visitors gather to enjoy live music as they devour the pies!

The Wines

Because this is such a small vineyard, each wine is special. Many of their wines can only be bought onsite due to such small quantities, but there are a few available online! When Bob and Karen first started, they experimented and created wines themselves. Now, they have Justin on board, an incredibly talented young man with a knack for creating wines. Because the grapes have to grow, it is a long process. However, you can come back over and over again to see what each year’s crop has to offer.
