The Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center is the main meeting place of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Here, you will find 3 galleries, an Eastern National bookstore, Blue Ridge Parkway information, a library, and a craft shop. Visitors can learn about both art and the area, watch demonstrations, and see some of the best art of the Southern Appalachians here. Whether you are looking to be inspired, purchase some one-of-a-kind pieces, or for information, we know you’ll love this center!

Craft Demonstrations at the Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center

During March through December, guests of the Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center can see interesting craft demonstrations in the lobby. Here, you can watch the craftspeople of the Southern Highland Craft Guild work as you ask them any questions you may have! Past demonstration topics have been clay, glass, metal, wood, and more. If you’re interested in seeing these artists are work, make sure you come between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM!

History of the Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center

Founded in 1897, the Blue Ridge Parkway Folk Art Center is officially home the oldest continuously operating craft shop in the United States. Over 100 years ago, Presbyterian missionary Frances Goodrich began the shop under the name of Allanstand. When the Southern Highland Craft Guild was founded in 1930, Goodrich donated the shop to them. Today, it still represents the work of more than 200 members! While the shop has had many homes before its location on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it has never lost its prestige.
