The Asheville Oktoberfest is Fun For Everyone

Every year the signals for the next season come sooner than we think. One popular season here in the Western North Carolina mountains is fall. The weather starts to cool off and the leaves begin to change. Not only do we at Orchard Inn love watching the mountains around us change, but we love the festivals that will come in the fall as well. One in particular that we love is Asheville Oktoberfest. All over the country there are many Oktoberfest festivals that celebrate everything German. Since Asheville has quickly become a haven for beer lovers, it’s natural that the Asheville Oktoberfest would be an amazing festival. Let’s have a look at all the fun you can have at this year’s Asheville Oktoberfest.

The 2015 Asheville Oktoberfest will be held on October 10th from 1 pm to 6 pm and will be in downtown Asheville, specifically Coxe Street. You will notice that when you are in downtown Asheville for the Asheville Oktoberfest you will be surrounded by all of these amazing breweries to try as well. Since the Asheville Oktoberfest will celebrate everything German, we all know that that will include beer. What better place to celebrate beer than here in Asheville? Tickets, especially bought in advance, are highly recommended since this event sells out quite quickly. Tickets for adults 21 and over, who plan to drink start at $30 (bought August 1st-31st) and then $35 (bought September 1st-30th) and then $40 starting October 1st. You can bring children under 21 with you however if they are aged between 8 and 21 then they have to purchase a non-drinkers ticket for $15. Children aged 7 and under are free. When you do purchase a ticket, you will get a tasting mug as well as an opportunity to taste multiple beers. There will be food there and we highly suggest that you try some of the German-inspired food that will pair perfectly with your beer.

You might be wondering which local breweries will be at the Asheville Oktoberfest this year. Fortunately, all ten breweries from last year will be there as well as many others. The breweries that have committed to the Asheville Oktoberfest this year are: Asheville Brewing Company, Catawba Valley Brewing Company, French Broad Brewery, Green Man Brewery, Highland Brewing Company, Hi-Wire Brewing, Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB), Oskar Blues Brewery, Pisgah Brewing, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Boojum Brewing and Appalachian Mountain Brewery.  There will also be hard cider available for the first time from Noble Cider and is made from our very own local apples.

Besides eating and drinking at the Asheville Oktoberfest, there will also be entertainment. No Oktoberfest will be complete without a German oompah band and back again are The Stratton Mountain Boys. You will enjoy their yodeling songs and fun Polka music that will get you up and dancing. There will also be some entertaining Asheville Oktoberfest games. Some of them include a stein race, pretzel toss and a keg rolling contest.

As you can see, we in the Western North Carolina mountains love to have fun and celebrate all of the cultures that make us unique. When you do come to the mountains for the Asheville Oktoberfest or any other reason, consider staying with us at Orchard Inn in nearby Saluda.
