Head to Grandad’s Apples N’ Such for Granny Smith, Candy Crisp, Arkansas Black, Braeburn, Pink Lady and Gold Rush apples. The 70-acre farm is located near Asheville, offering a variety of fun activities. Select pre-picked apples fresh off the trees or go out into the orchard and pick for yourself. An added bonus is Grandad’s pumpkin patch, where you will find pumpkins and jack o’lanterns in every size and shape! And don’t forget to say “hi” to their livestock and check out their bakery and country store.
Piney Mountain Orchards
Piney Mountain Orchards is a third generation apple farm. Crops are picked daily to ensure they are at their peak for flavor. The taste will bring back wonderful childhood memories of climbing trees yourself. Also, be sure to try their delicious homemade ice cream in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard
Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard is a fourth generation, 70-acre working farm with gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in Hendersonville, it has so many fun things to do that it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon there. Some of the notable activities are going apple picking and enjoying a tractor ride through the orchards. Be sure to spend some time on their nature trail and learn about the different varieties of apples: there are over 20 on this farm alone. Time for Halloween? Be sure to pick up a pumpkin as well. You can also take a stroll through their 5-acre corn maze. Before you leave, be sure to pick up an apple cider donut!
This pick-your-own farm and roadside market can be found in Edneyville, North Carolina. There are apples, jams, and jellies available. You can purchase pre-picked in all qualities or you can pick your own on site.
Another wonderful North Carolina family farm where you can go apple picking is Justus Orchard in Hendersonville. Not only do they have an apple orchard but they have a farm as well. Children enjoy rides on the cow train and everyone loves visiting the farm animals and the ducks at their pond. Take some time and pick your own apples from their orchard, or save time by choosing ones that have already been picked. While you may be able to think of a million ways to use your apple picking haul, we suggest you look into the baked goods, jams, jellies, and preserves at Justus Orchard. Take home some pies and apple cider, the best way to remember your apple picking trip.
Sky Top Apple Orchard
At Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock, you’ll find panoramic mountain views, orchard ponds with ducks and geese, a barnyard area and bamboo forest, lots of picnic areas and a mountaintop of fragrant apple and fruit trees!
