Asheville has some of the best beer in the Southeast. Yet, the surrounding areas have stunning wines. There is something special about our soil. In addition, having plenty of pure mountain water can make grapes thrive. We at Orchard Inn enjoy our local wineries and encourage our guests to try them. Furthermore, one winery that is a lot of fun to visit is Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards. Let’s see how you can enjoy an afternoon touring Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards.
About Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards
The only place to start with Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards is their history. This is a family owned business. They have been farming their land for nine generations and take tremendous pride in it.
The wine part of the farming did not start until 2012. Before that, lots of research went into what types of grapes would grow well in this area. The climate here in western North Carolina is like the wine growing regions of Europe. They have two sets of vineyards, one at 2,300 feet and the other at 3,000 feet. They grow French vinifera and German and Austria variations of grapes.

Visiting Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards
When you visit this winery, you will be in for a treat. Their tasting room is beautiful. The central focus of the tasting room is a warm chestnut bar. They have seating inside and outside for you to choose from. If the weather is pleasant, consider sitting outside. The views that you will get are just stunning. Also, when you walk out onto the patio, you are just steps away from the grapes. Ask the staff questions about the process and the grapes themselves. It will help you understand their wine making process.
Events at Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards
This summer and fall, head over to Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards for their fun music events. They will feature artists of many different genres throughout the months. Some upcoming performances are:
- Matt Bednarsky- He will be at the vineyard on July 31st at 2:30 pm. His soothing voice and guitar will entertain you for hours.

- Jeff Michaels- The next day, August 7th, at 2:30 pm will be Jeff Michaels. Jeff draws his inspiration from his favorites from the 1970’s.
