For some of us, there is nothing better than a fantastic glass of wine. When it comes to wine, you can taste the subtle differences not only in the fruit used but in the soil from where the wine came from. A French wine and a California wine are vastly different just from the soil. However, those aren’t the only regions in the world that make wine. All around the country wineries are popping up much to the delight of locals and their visitors. The soil here in the Western North Carolina mountains is perfect for growing grapes and they produce some amazing wines. We at Orchard Inn love helping our guests figure out what activities to do while they are here. One top suggestion we have is to enjoy the North Carolina Wine Trail and some of our North Carolina wineries. Here are the top 5 North Carolina wineries that you can find in the North Carolina Wine Trail in our area of Polk County.
The first in our list of North Carolina wineries to explore on the North Carolina Wine Trail is Parker-Binns. This wonderful vineyard was first established in 2007 by Karen and Bob Binns whom after a long and successful life decided to come out of retirement to open a winery. They have 35 acres that are not only beautiful to visit, produce amazing wines. They have many varietals to choose from, perfect for any palate. They also have a fun tasting room open Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6 pm. While you are there, be sure to check out their fun wine themed merchandise!
Overmountain Vineyards is next in our list of North Carolina wineries on the North Carolina Wine Trail and they are divine. What sets Overmountain Vineyards apart is the types of grapes they grow. They focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. They also have blueberries for sale as well. When you visit, you will love their views of the mountains. In the warmer months, guests enjoy live music and in the cooler months, a toasty fire pit.
Another wonderful vineyard in our list of North Carolina wineries on the North Carolina Wine Trail is Mountain Brook Vineyards. They keep their vintages small to ensure the highest quality of their wine. Visiting them is a fun experience and they are open for tastings from 1 pm to 6 pm Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The last vineyard in our list of North Carolina wineries on the North Carolina Wine Trail is Russian Chapel Hills Winery located in Columbus.
