Have you ever felt lost or unappreciated during a hotel stay? If so, consider taking your next vacation to the next level. A more personalized getaway is available if you just take a look inside the B&B industry. Don’t worry, if you’re asking yourself, “what is a bed and breakfast?” That’s why we’re here.
Take a moment and let us help you understand the intricacies of our industry. We want to make sure you feel as if your choice of residence matters and that you’ll feel especially pampered. You’re guaranteed that experience at the Orchard Inn Bed and Breakfast.
First, you’ll need to learn more about B&Bs. They are usually small lodging establishments that offer overnight accommodations…and of course, breakfast. Many bed and breakfasts, such as the Orchard Inn, also have their own restaurant on site, but it’s not expected.
The majority of bed and breakfasts are private homes that have approximately 10 rooms. Those rooms or suites usually include private bathrooms. In the mornings, breakfast is often served in a dining room or can be delivered to your room.
B&Bs can serve as primary businesses or secondary sources of income. Some owners view them as a means of retirement. They will live on site, or even hours away. When they do not live at the bed and breakfast, they will usually hire an Innkeeper. Serving as a point of contact at the bed and breakfast, the Innkeeper will run the day to day operations of the inn. There may also be chefs and other professional staff members.
It’s important for inns and bed and breakfasts to be members of professional associations. This keeps them up to date with the industry and expectations. The goal of the association is usually to help the bed and breakfasts and the traveling public, and that can be local, regional, national or international. We have a couple examples, like the Professional Association of Innkeepers International. PAII helps provide guests with stays that are rewarding and memorable. A wealth of information and education on finance, management, marketing, technology, cooking, decorating, cleaning, safety, customer service and staffing is provided by the organization. Likewise, Select Registry (Distinguished Inns of North America) inspects its nearly 400 inns and bed and breakfasts. Inspectors help evaluate the accommodations to ensure a stay at the inn or bed and breakfast will be in a class all its own. Associations like PAII and Select Registry help bed and breakfasts earn their reputation in the travel industry.
When it comes to the state in which the B&B resides, there are innkeeping associations there that help promote the industry and tourism. State, city and regional associations also have inspection criteria for safety and cleanliness. To make sure bed and breakfasts are operating to their fullest extent, it’s about accountability.
Are you becoming more familiar with what is a bed and breakfast? According to researchers, it’s the homey or wholesome atmosphere, homestyle meals, and ability to converse with other guests that make them so appealing. But we can’t leave out the focus of pampering and personalized service!
