Registration is Open for the Asheville Marathon

Asheville MarathonThe countdown is on to the Asheville Marathon and inaugural half at Biltmore Estate. It’s presented by Hunter Subaru and is set for March 16, 2014.

You do not want to miss this event. Last year’s sold out three months in advance, so act quickly to secure your spot. Choose from a 26.2 or 13.1-mile challenge. It is a Boston Marathon qualifying event. Runners will explore America’s largest backyard as they wind through paved roads by hardwood forest, meadows and gardens with extraordinary views. The full marathon starts at 7:30 a.m, and participants will conquer uneven suffices on wide-carriage, dirt, gravel and rocky roads. Organizers promise an unforgettable, rewarding and well-supported experience.

When you participate in the event, you’ll be automatically entered in the history books as part of the second annual elite boutique event. Each participant will also receive a women’s specific or men’s custom designed race t-shirt, a goodie bag and finisher’s award. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75+. Race entry includes access to the Biltmore grounds as well.

And now for the half… If you’re not up for a full marathon, an entire destination experience will be available for you, your friends and family. For the first ten miles, full and half marathoners will run the same course. You can enjoy the European Gardens, great views of the Biltmore House and manicured grounds. Then when the full marathoners break for the west side, half marathon runners will complete the last three miles along the banks of the French Broad River. When you participate, you’ll again be put into the history books as part of an Inaugural Half Marathon event at Biltmore Estate. The same amenities apply, but halfers are not eligible for prize money. Also, elite programs and pace leaders do not apply.

So if you’re ready to sign up, you should do so now. The Asheville Marathon and Half have partnered with imATHLETE, a leader in online registration. It’s a safe, easy and secure website. They guarantee to keep your personal information safe. Keep in mind your entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be deferred to any future events. However, you can switch anytime between the two races. If you registered for the half, but want to switch to the full or vice versa, there is a transfer fee if you elect to switch but it can be done. Participants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign their registration waiver for all events. It is not recommended that participants under 18 run in the full marathon. Though the minimum age is 16-years-old.

If you’d like to volunteer for the event, there are several opportunities. Of course, volunteers will be taken care of with drinks and food.

Finally, if this is your first event, there are several training programs available. Some great resources are available here.
